In an era of modern design and architecture, Vastu doshas are commonplace.
We are all being rewired to design homes that are aesthetically smart but fundamentally full of flaws.
There is very little or no thought given to the correct Vastu placement of main door, location of bedrooms or correct placement of toilets etc.
There is gross ignorance of Vastu rules for flats and bungalows. And the builders obviously choose to ignore them completely.
However, in the race to achieve the best designs, we compromise significantly when it comes to Vastu guidelines. This leads to Vastu doshas in buildings.
Unfortunately, failing to make Vastu compliant buildings are disturbing our lives like never before.
It is not only making us slower, denser and less capable of original thought, but also impacting our health severely.
Note: You may want to read our much loved blog on the incredible connection between your house and your health.
It is is increasingly taking its toll on our health, finances and leading to poor relationships.
In the end, we have larger and smarter homes, but poor health and relationships.
Let’s have a look at 7 modern Vastu doshas that is increasingly making our lives difficult.
1.) Smart homes or a sea of EMR’s (electro-magnetic radiations) ?
In the increasingly digital world, life is anything but healthy. Our body works like a battery and is charged when surrounded by nature.
Activities such as taking a hike or spending a day at the beach, walking in a forest or on the wet morning grass in a lawn keeps our body and mind in sync with the powerful energies of the nature.
But all these activities merely remain a dream now. Our houses are surrounded by ‘synthetic currents’ emanating from Wi-Fi Modems and Routers, electrical wiring inside a house, microwaves, computers and mobiles etc.
NOTE: We have an excellent blog on how electromagnetic radiation is a silent killer.
This is a kind of Vastu dosha which was unthinkable a decade back. But now it’s all over.
When the body is consistently exposed to environments that exude negative synthetic currents/energies, it drains the human battery and hinders its internal functions and immunity.
This modern Vastu dosha significantly disturbs our minds and nervous system. It leads to accelerating ageing as well as making it harder to heal.
NOTE: Read our blog on how to activate healing energies in your home.
When we are in continuous surroundings of synthetic EMF emissions, it causes stress to the natural functions of our body.
Continuous exposure to synthetic artificial Electro-Magnetic Fields (EMFs) depletes our body energy field, locks out nutrients from being absorbed and accelerates cell death. This is turn speeds up the oxidation and aging process.
As a result, no matter how well you eat, exercise and meditate, the invisible forces of synthetic EMFs can be a major driver to almost any health challenge.
2.) The modern day Vastu dosha caused by false ceilings
Yes you read that right!
You might be wondering what the innocuous false ceiling has got to do with Vastu dosh ?
It most certainly has!
In an increasingly electrified world, false ceilings have become an indispensable part of modern day architecture. They certainly add spark to your decor enhancing the aesthetics, but they also come with a host of health hazards.
Note : Read our amazing blog on Vastu Secrets of Tirupati Balaji Temple
With heights of modern ceilings increasingly dropping down due to space constraints, we already live with lower roofs over our heads.
Whatever our sleeping direction as per Vastu, we always have a web of wires over or around our heads.
A false ceiling under the original one brings it further down a few notches. The result is more enclosed spaces and a less airy environment. An imbalance of the air element is one of the biggest Vastu doshas of modern times.
With modern homes already having lesser cross-ventilation, ACs have become a necessity to beat the heat and humidity. Add to it the heat generated by the lights installed in false ceilings, the in-house temperatures have also gone up.
This has led to an increase in the use of air conditioning which consequently adds to global warming.
Moreover, the electrical wiring in false ceilings is sure to create an array of electromagnetic fields over your head. That certainly is a modern Vastu dosha which is not good for health.
Thus, the disadvantages of false ceiling by far outweigh the advantages and one should avoid them as much as possible
3.) Box beds or a haven for storing unending material possessions ?
Increasing income levels have led people to spend more on material things in truckloads. The need for extra bedding, clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry, utensils etc. never seem to end.
And of course everything bought has to be stored somewhere. With decreasing spaces in the house, box beds have become a boon for most families.
While checking the Vastu for bedrooms, we often we see that people are sleeping on box beds full of metallic and non-metallic stuff which is very harmful for the body.
A closed wooden box under your back blocks the circulation of energies and air. This is one of the major reasons for widespread back ache problems. And in the modern context, they are a big reason for Vastu dosh due to blockage of energy flow.
Also since the back gets disturbed and is under constant pain, it also has a direct impact on other vital organs of the body like the kidneys, liver etc.
Thus, it is strictly advisable to avoid using box beds.
4.)Mirrors mirrors on every wall!
The judicious use of mirrors certainly adds a dash of elegance to your house. Mirrors are known to make a house look bigger by doubling the effect of whatever reflects in them.
Since mirrors have a quality of reflecting what is visible in them, they give an impression of doubling a cut area when placed appropriately.
Thus if you place mirrors as per Vastu in your house, they can symbolically double your wealth, health and prosperity.
Traditional texts on Vastu Shastra have no mention of mirrors per say. However, if we closely look at their qualities, the one that stands out is their ability to reflect back.
Now if we have to associate mirrors to one of the five elements of nature or Pancha Mahabhutas, it has to be the water element.
This is simply because among the five elements, water element is the one which also has the quality of reflection. When you look into water, you can see yourself to some extent.
Thus, Vastu categorizes mirrors as water element. And if the water element is not in balance, it causes Vastu dosh.
Now if you place a mirror in the South East or South- the zones of the fire element which is the ideal placement of a kitchen as per Vastu, you’ll be in for a lot of trouble.
Mirrors placed in these directions are a dangerous Vastu dosha and can lead to accidents and financial losses.
Thus, the use of mirrors is good but their placement needs to be decided very carefully.
5.) Vastu dosha due to metallic furniture with zero vibrational energy
This is another factor which most people are oblivious to. The kind of furniture you use in your house also plays a very important role in your health and well being
These days, there’s rampant use of metallic furniture.
An important suggestion we make while doing living room Vastu is not to use metallic furniture or furniture made of artificial fibers. This is because such furniture has a very low vibrational frequency when compared to natural wood.
In fact, everything natural- be it wood or stone has a much higher positive frequency than artificially created stuff. And anything unnatural is a contributor to Vastu dosha.
By sleeping on metal beds, one surely invites health problems. This is because all metals create a certain level of electromagnetic field.
Since we humans are also electrical beings, anytime we go near metals, the body feels a certain level of discomfort. Though one may not feel it externally, the mind and the brainwaves certainly negatively affected.
While doing Vastu for study rooms, we even recommend that kids should study sitting on a wooden chair and use a wooden table. They should simply avoid fiber or metallic furniture. The positive natural vibrations of the wood will certainly help them concentrate better.
6.) Vitrified tiles – the root of joint problems
In the race to get the most modern design and looks, home-owners and interior designers look for the fastest flooring options easy to install. They completely ignore the Vastu doshas it can cause.
This is why large scale commercial use of vitrified tiles for flooring is very common these days.
Do keep in mind that the flooring of your house gives a base, stability and a subtle grounding effect to the entirety of your interiors. Therefore, it must be chose carefully.
The increasing use of vitrified tiles has become one of the major reasons for joint problems and body aches.
Vitrified tiles are hard, cold and unyielding to an extent that doctors prescribe against them. They have been known to cause unnecessary stress on joints and hence causing joint-pains and stuck knees in many cases.
Marble being a natural stone offers a better choice. Since it is a naturally occurring stone, it has high vibrational frequencies as compared to machine made tiles.
Thus, it is advisable to choose natural material for flooring to avoid Vastu doshas. In case you already have vitrified tiles installed, you may choose to install natural wooden flooring on top of it.
7.) Vastu doshas caused by double height ceilings
Double height ceilings are very common in duplex flats or even bungalows.
In the language of architects and interior designers, double height room means the room that has its ceiling at a considerable height.
Normally the ceiling is 9-11 feet high. In double- height rooms, it tends to be twice or sometimes a little bit less or more than twice the normal height.
A double height ceiling basically means that the ground floor has half a ceiling and the first floor has half a floor.
Now the cut in the floor area of the first floor can have a lot of negative consequences which modern designers and home-owners tend to ignore. It is a big Vastu dosha which can lead to complex problems.
Think of you house like a body. If any part of the body is missing, it can disturb the entire balance of your life.
You house is actually a living vibrating energy field based on the cosmic principle of the Vastu Purusha Mandala.
Similarly, let’s say the Northern part of you duplex has a double height ceiling. It essentially means that the North zone of the first floor is cut. This can have a lot of financial repercussions and bring in health challenges.
Thus, it is advisable to seek expert advice from an experienced Vastu consultant in order to understand how the missing energies can be brought back to your space.
Conclusion
Modern architecture surely brings convenience and luxury. But it also comes at a cost.
The cost in this case is poor health, disturbed relationships and lack of financial savings caused by Vastu doshas.
And all this is because of non-compliance with Vastu Shastra guidelines which are completely scientific and based on facts.
In order to get the best out of modern designs and architecture, we advice that the principles of Vastu are inculcated right from the design stage and followed till the end.
Only then can one enjoy the fruits of good health and prosperity.
